Arc/Info and ArcView symbols

This page contains unofficial Arc/Info and ArcView geology symbol sets used on the Vermont project. All of the files are compressed and need to be unzipped before using. The name(s) of the uncompressed file(s) is(are) shown next to the highlighted, downloadable, compressed file.

Arc/Info

The host Arc/Info lineset is the same as the one first defined by Fitzgibbon and Wentworth (1991) [see Fitzgibbon, T.T., and Wentworth, C.M., 1991, ALACARTE user interface: AML code and demonstration maps, Version 1.0: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 91-587]. The host Arc/Info markerset is modified from Fitzgibbon and Wentworth (1991). The symbols in the markerset available at this site differ from Alacarte symbols by 180 degrees.

Font files - Zip file contains 4 files; they must all reside in your workspace.

ArcView

Use this True Type font for custom point symbols in ArcView. Copy it to your Windows\Fonts directory. From the "Window" menu, chose "show symbol window". From the font palette, chose the "ABC" button, scroll down to "geol", and then click on the "create markers" button. Scroll down and pick the geology symbol. You will need to have a field in your database that defines the proper rotation of the symbols; in the Vermont database it is the "Symbol_ang" field. From the "Legend Editor" window, double click the symbol, choose "Advanced", choose the Rotation Field as "Symbol_ang", click OK.
