FY 2010
The primary goals for the USGS group during FY10 are to facilitate model groups interested in the Pliocene Model Intercomparison Project (PlioMIP), expanding the USGS SST data set, and initiating the first of the PRISM4 Validation data sets:
- Analyze additional material from Atlantic and Pacific Oceans for a new multiproxy Pacific Ocean surface reconstruction. This includes sites from the western low latitude Pacific and high northern latitudes. Information from upwelling zones off the US west coast and the west coast of South America will be integrated for this reconstruction.
- Sample and analyze high resolution time series as part of a collaboration with Brown University.
- Complete Indian Ocean effort at four new sites as part of a collaboration with Columbia University.
- Continue generation and analysis of a large number of samples from the Pacific Ocean as part of a data-model comparison project with University of Leeds. Work will continue on our high latitude North Atlantic and Southern Ocean efforts.
- Revised Topography: Initiate the USGS mid-Piacenzian topography and river routing data set.
- Revise web site and maintain the PlioMIP pages.
- Regional science products as part of PMIP2 initialization and validation work.
- Initiate east and west coast analysis of mid-Piacenzian units using MART (with British Geological Survey).
- Several smaller initiatives that have developed from our ongoing work will be pursued.
