ArcInfo
Installing ArcInfo 8.0.2
We installed ArcInfo on
each of the four computers used for this project. These computers are
connected within our local network. Each software package purchased came
with an individual key code and a red key card (hardware) that attaches to a
port on your CPU. It is important to know that the key code can only be
installed once on a computer. Also included were installation CD's for use
with our UNIX Intel-based system.
CD-1 contains:
- ArcInfo - A GIS with tools for automation, modification, management,
analysis and display of cartographic information. Various extensions
(below) are available to build on core functionality. ArcInfo runs on
a variety of hardware platforms, including UNIX workstations and Windows NT.
It supports many data formats including AutoCAD (DXF and DWG), Intergraph (DGN),
Census (TIGER), ESRI shapefiles, PC ARC/INFO export files, and standard
output (EPS and CGM). In addition, ArcInfo reads standard raster data:
ERDAS, BIL, and TIFF.
- ArcMap - Display, query and analysis of your map data are supported by the
ArcMap application; this feature enables you to do CAD-like editing, assist
with advanced mapping capabilities and supports advanced graphics.
ArcMap includes an editor capable of multi-user attribute entry and update
- ArcCatalog - This is an application that allows the user to locate, browse
for and manage spatial data
- ArcTools/Toolbox - Allows you to complete common geoprocessing tasks with a user-friendly
drop-down menu
CD-2 contains:
- ArcEdit - This can be used to digitize and edit data
- ArcExplorer - Data viewer and query tool for spatial data sets (this
addition is not ArcInfo software)
The CD will automatically open up the installation help
wizard to take you step-by-step through the installation. You will need to
enter the key code when it requests your license path. You have the option
of installing several sample maps and tutorials to get you started.
